Welcome to the International Angelman Syndrome Organisation (IASO)
IASO Second World Conference: July 2-5, 2003, in Washington, DC,
USA. Some conference presentations will be made available -
see Conference Presentations.
Our Foundations
In July, 1997, at the Angelman Syndrome Foundation (ASF) Conference in Seattle, Washington, USA, representatives from several countries met and discussed the establishment of an International Angelman Syndrome Organisation (IASO). They decided to set up a Working Group which would launch preparations for the first meeting of the IASO. In November, 1997, a letter inviting national Angelman syndrome organisations was sent by the IASO Working Group to representatives from 22 countries. The IASO was founded on the 6th of August, 1998 at the Canadian Angelman Syndrome Society (CASS) international conference, held in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Our Purpose
The IASO was founded as a world-wide 'umbrella' organisation of national Angelman syndrome associations. It is politically neutral, with no discrimination as to race, sex, colour or religion, and is non-profit-making. One of its main duties is to help translate and distribute written material on AS in several languages. To fulfill this goal in practice, it will need the help of many individuals who are prepared to do the translating. This has already been done privately, on a small scale in connection with some web sites devoted to AS. See: Statement of Purpose
The Officials of the IASO
At
the General Meeting of the IASO, held in Washington DC, USA,
July 1, 2003, elected was Mrs. Mélanie Barton (Germany) for
President and Mrs. Adela Montepagano (Argentina) for
Vice-President. Ten other Board members were also elected,
all for a term of 3 years. Due to the geographical distances,
they meet over the Internet. See: Board Members.
